The doctors and staff at St Kilda Medical Group are committed to giving you, our valued patient, quality care and service. All staff are trained in the appropriate handling of personal information by this practice. We protect your privacy and treat all patient information including health and financial details as private and confidential.<\/p>

We have developed and documented a privacy policy according to current privacy laws.\u00a0Doctors and staff of this practice abide by this privacy policy and understand that a policy breach is grounds for dismissal.\u00a0 All staff are trained in privacy, confidentiality, and the proper handling of health information.<\/span><\/p>

Management of Privacy<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Patient health information is collected, stored, and disclosed only as permitted under the Privacy Act 1988, the APPs, and other relevant laws.<\/p>

Health information may be shared with other healthcare providers (e.g., specialists, hospitals, pharmacies) when required for patient care and with the patient\u2019s consent.<\/p>

St Kilda Medical Group uses secure clinical software systems, including Best Practice software, to support safe and effective patient care. These systems may use document automation technologies to assist clinicians in preparing referral letters, care plans, medical reports, and other correspondence, helping ensure relevant and up-to-date medical information is accurately included. All documents are reviewed by a treating clinician before being finalised.<\/p>

In some circumstances, consultations may be audio recorded, duplicated, or stored, including consultations conducted face-to-face, via telehealth, or remotely. Recordings are used only to assist in generating AI-assisted consultation notes and are not used for training, quality improvement, medico-legal purposes, or any other purpose. Patient consent is required before any recording and is documented in the medical record. Consent may be declined or withdrawn at any time without affecting the care provided.<\/p>

All recordings and electronic records are treated as health information, stored securely, and accessed only by authorised personnel in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. All personal health information is treated as sensitive and protected with appropriate safeguards. The Practice Manager (Privacy Officer) is responsible for oversight of privacy, and all team members, contractors, and associated health professionals are required to comply with privacy and confidentiality obligations. Electronic records are stored in secure, password-protected systems, accessible only to authorised staff, and backed up regularly. Staff receive ongoing privacy and security training. In the event of a data breach, the Practice will contain the breach, assess its impact, notify affected patients and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if serious harm is likely, and review and strengthen security measures to prevent recurrence.<\/p>
